MCCJ’s Diversity and Cultural Inclusion Clubs emphasize authentic youth engagement, consensus building, inclusivity, sustainable community involvement, and the leadership tools of civic engagement.
The program originally started as a grant from The Children’s Trust for an after-school program and has evolved since to encompass a more wholistic approach to the original program’s goals. Team members meet weekly, throughout the year, to identify a pressing social issue in their school or community and design and implement a project that addresses the problem. Youth formulate project goals and determine an appropriate timeline and process for project completion.
Weekly meetings include structured project planning, collaborative discussion, time for project implementation, and team-building.
